Things Lula Likes

 2015-01-10 15.49.042015-01-10 15.48.25

This year Lula has been very interested in painting and drawing and generally creating (best news ever) I can’t pretend that I wasn’t hoping that she would love to make and do so much. I didn’t want to push her in one direction or another and never forced her to go one direction or another. I am so excited that she is so interested in creating, it gives me an opportunity to play like a kid. I’ve been trying to figure out how to keep track of how Lu wants to explore the person that she is becoming this year. We have done comic books and weekly photos. I LOVED the comic book but didn’t push it once she didn’t want to make them anymore.  The weekly photos were really up to us as parents since she couldn’t talk or move for the most part. This year I want Lu to have more say and influence in how we document her life. I want to encourage her to explore who she is in her own way.

The past month or so Lu has become very interested in taking pictures of things, not people or herself but things around her. Today I decided to just let her roam around the kitchen and take pictures of whatever she liked. It was a moment I didn’t think of too much or think would amount to anything. I was cooking and putting things away and she was a little bit in the way. It gave me a few minutes to get things organized so I could actually pay 100% attention to her. A funny thing happened once I showed her how to use the camera, she was so intentional in what she took pictures of. She didn’t just walk up to anything and point the camera at it, she walked around everything and looked for the right angle and the right place to take each photo. I stopped what I was doing just to watch her. Sometimes I am so in awe of the amazing little person she is becoming.

This year Lu is going to document herself. I’m going to give her a camera once or twice a month, maybe more maybe less, and let her do whatever she wants. Maybe we will go on a trip to the beach or a museum or a garden or maybe it will just be hanging out at the house. I’m going to let her take the lead and show me how she sees things and how she wants to remember this year.  Introducing Lula’s first photographs untouched and handpicked by her.

Watering the day away

Watering the Veggies from Kathryn Van Bourgondien on Vimeo.

I think she could spend all day watering the garden and never get tired. It's the first thing she wants to do when he gets home from school. Straight out to the backyard! It looks like we will have lots of veggies this summer.

Lula turns 2

cupcake6

This past weekend or little one turned 2. We had a party planned but Sandy had some other plans for us. We decided to cancel the party to keep everyone safe and dry at home. We still had everything ready so we decided to have the party with just the 3 of us! Lula’s party was all about the number 2 this year. There was 2 of everything.. 2 kinds juices, 2 kinds cupcakes, 2 kinds of chicken, 2 kinds of hotdogs, 2 kinds of grapes, 2 kinds of dip and pita chips and 2 kinds of cheez-its.  All of her Lula’s favorite special snacks.

The three of us had a great time and in the end we gave Lula her birthday present. I found an old Holly Hobby kitchen set at a yard sale for $10 and spent about a month remodeling it. I found a tea set and some pots and pans and it was good as new.. we think she likes it!

26 Weeks of Lula

It’s hard to believe that we have taken 26 of these pictures, she has changed so much and we can’t wait to see how much she is going to change in the next 26.

6 Months and Counting

lu's big day 2011-04-28 024

Yesterday I took the day off and Lula stayed home with me to celebrate her big birthday. My plan was to spend the day outside in the yard, but with the storms and rain yesterday we stayed inside instead.  We went out in the morning to run a few errands and then came home to make a special treat for the day…

lu's big day 2011-04-28 120We made two  small red velvet layer cakes and a special treat that Lula could actually enjoy. Steamed carrots and butternut squash with cinnamon, thanks to Lula’s Aunt Kris who gave us our very own Beaba babycook for Christmas last year. It was definitely a hit and after a day of playing in the kitchen Lula was ready for bed a bit early and had her bath and went to bed a bit earlier than usual around 5:15.

Then it was time for Scott and I to give ourselves a little pat on the back for making it through our first 6 months of being parents,  my going back to work at a less than ideal schedule and still having a happy, smiling baby!

Happy 26th Week Lula!

It’s hard for me to believe that  6 months ago you were so little and quiet. Now we can’t keep you quiet, you are either having a lively if imaginary conversation with us or with your toys or singing along in the car. You put absolutely everything in your mouth and you can’t wait to get your hands on everything. You are also starting to drink out of a cup! You have had your first Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Valentine’s Day and Easter. Now you will have your first and only 6 month birthday!

Happy 24th Week Lula!

lu;s mommy day 2011-04-11 002

This week we have been going to get you up in the morning to find you “swimming” around.  You roll over onto your stomach and inch your way all around your crib.  You have also learned how to sing at different volumes this week and you have been exercising your vocal chords as much as possible.  Monday you  and Mom spent the whole day playing in the sun!

This week absolutely everything goes in your mouth! Toys, hair, your fingers, anyone else’s fingers, clothes, spoons, just about anything you can get your hands on. You are a fan of carrots and have figured out how to reach for things including the spoon you are eating off of.

Happy 22nd Week Lula!

This week you have started to really enjoy fruit,  pears specifically, you don’t love apples but you will tolerate them.  We finally found a cereal that you like, leave it to you, your cereal of choice isn’t rice or oatmeal its multigrain. I hope you aren’t this picky once you start eating solid food.

Happy 21st Week Lula!

week(21)

This week you have become mobile (sort of). Almost overnight you turned into our little inchworm. You are scooting along all on your own. You just lay back and relax on you back and push yourself across the floor. Sometimes you turn on your side and kick yourself around in a circle. We never find you in the same spot or even facing the same direction when we get you up in the morning.

Happy 20th Week Lula!

lu 2011-03-16 044

This week you have really stepped up your chatting game. You LOVE to have a nice long chat with your giraffe first thing in the morning.  You also got to spend lots of time with Grandma and Aunt Rosy this weekend while Grandpa and Mom and Dad were working on your new bathroom.
